The British supercar specialists have just unveiled a new range of electric mountain bikes. The lineup consists of two distinct models, the Extreme and Sport, which the automaker claims are the most powerful street-legal e-bikes you can buy.
Drawing inspiration from McLaren’s iconic supercars, the new limited-edition collection looks to set a new standard in high-performance cycling.
The lineup includes the Extreme 600 and Sport 600 models, which claim to be among the world’s most powerful e-bikes — with up to 600W and 161Nm of torque. Designed by the same teams responsible for supercars models like the Artura hybrid, these cycles feature hand-laid carbon-fibre frames and offer five power settings: including the (self-explanatory) ‘Eco’, ‘Trail’, ‘Sport’, and ‘Race’.
Speed tends to translate across industries and design disciplines, at least if you have the prowess and power of the open road in your wheelhouse. McLaren certainly has plenty of both to go around, along with impressive design know-how, and that now translates into a new line of McLaren electric mountain bikes.
The name McLaren is synonymous with speed. From the British marque’s long and illustrious history in Formula 1 to its legendary record-breaking F1 road car to the bonkers hypercars such as the Speedtail that it produces today, odds are if your vehicle says “McLaren” on the side, it can absolutely fly.

McLaren kicked off its venture into e-bikes, or "electric hyperbikes", with a limited-edition four-bike range consisting of the Extreme 600W, Extreme 250W, Sport 600W, and Sport 250W. And with McLaren being McLaren, the models are as performance-orientated as you'd expect. They were even designed by the same teams that are responsible for the brand's supercars.
McLaren Automotive has announced its return to two-wheel transport with a new electric mountain bike range.
The flagship Extreme 600 and Sport 600 feature a 600W motor providing 161Nm of torque. McLaren says this makes it the most powerful electric mountain bike.
Four models will be available across two platforms. The Sport is a hardtail and the Extreme is a 145mm travel trail-focussed eMTB.
The real story is its power unit. Leveraging all its knowledge of hybridised electric drive systems, learned from developing powerful electric motors for its supercars like the Artura, McLaren’s Extreme 600 trail bike features 852W of peak power pedalling assistance. Its 161Nm torque rating is nearly double that of most other e-bikes, too.
McLaren is best known for building some of the world’s most iconic supercars, but it’s branching out into what it calls “hyperbikes” with the launch of four new e-bikes, complete with massive power outputs that it claims are the pokiest ever.
The raw stats on these bikes are truly impressive and worthy of McLaren’s status, the Extreme 600 and Sport 600 claim 161Nm of torque, which is nearly double that of the Bosch CX motor and Shimano EP801 power unit. The pokiest model in the four bike range gets 852W peak power too, potentially leaving the SRAM’s 680W Powertrain motor in its dust. Even the best electric mountain bikes out there can’t match this for pure grunt.

This is no mere collaboration or badge-engineered bike, either, as the ‘hyperbikes’ have been designed and built in-house. From carbon, of course - McLaren has really committed to this.
So much so, in fact, that you can’t buy one of them, because it’s too fast. The Extreme and Sport 600 will only be sold in the USA as the 600W and 118lb ft potential means it can reach 20mph, which exceeds EU limits. Fortunately the range features two other models that will be available here: a Sport and Extreme 250 that tones things down a little to 250W and 89lb ft.
